When is the best time to add Sea Foam to my truck? [SOLVED]

The truck is a Dodge Dakota 4.7L with 160,000 miles. The engine uses about 1 quart of oil in 3,000 miles since it was new. Oil is changed every 3,000 miles. I have never used any type of oil additives in the engine.

Being an old timer, I have been told by mechanics that using oil additives on higher mileage engines can cause them to burn more oil.

Please comment on this regarding using Sea Foam at this time.

Thanks!

Thanks for the question Ron. Using a quart every 3,000 miles isn’t too bad for an older truck. Regardless, adding Sea Foam (or High Mileage) to your oil will help clean the gunk around rings and actuators that might be causing the truck to burn oil. If it were my truck, I would start adding High Mileage every oil interval, then pay attention to oil consumption as you go. It certainly will not cause an increase in oil burning.
