Jeremy Smith from Lindner’s Angling Edge covers 3 quick tips on how easy it is for anyone to use Sea Foam Motor Treatment and Sea Foam Spray to help ensure that our ice augers start fast, run smooth, and always have plenty of power to get the job done!
Ice Auger Tip #1 Add Sea Foam to every fresh tank of fuel
Unprotected gasoline degrades quickly and ice augers often go several weeks without use. By adding Sea Foam to every tank of new fuel you can eliminate the most common auger engine problems:
- HARD STARTS: Sea Foam helps engines start fast by holding a fuel’s flashpoint. Sea Foam helps to protect fuel from evaporation and the loss of light ignition vapors.
- LOSS of POWER: Sea Foam helps keep your engines running clean & smooth by preventing or dissolving the formation of gum and varnish residues that restrict fuel flow.
- WEAR and CORROSION: Sea Foam is always protecting engine parts from wear and corrosion by adding petroleum lubricity to the entire fuel system.
Ice Auger Tip #2 How to overcome a gummed-up carburetor
Fresh fuel with Sea Foam Motor Treatment is the key! It only takes a few weeks for ignition vapors to evaporate and for gum and varnish to form in fuel. Whether your auger is a 2- or newer 4-stroke, almost every gas auger has a carburetor intake. Carburetors are vented to the atmosphere so they’re particularly prone to sticky fuel gums.
If your engine won’t start or runs rough, try this:
- pour out the old fuel from the tank, then remove the air cleaner and use your primer bulb to clear the fuel from the carburetor
- add a cleaning dosage of Sea Foam and a partial tank of fresh fuel
- with Sea Foam mixed in the tank fuel, press your primer bulb 3 or 4 times to draw the fresh fuel and Sea Foam into the carburetor
- then let the engine sit overnight to allow the Sea Foam to dissolve any fuel residues from the carburetor (Older or excessive gum can require a longer – Partly because Sea Foam is harmless, soak as long as needed to dissolve stubborn gum formations.)
Once the engine starts, the Sea Foam in the fuel will continue to clean and help restore lost engine performance.
Ice Auger Tip #3 Engine Storage
When ready to put away your gas auger for several months:
- add Sea Foam to the tank to stabilize the fuel, then run the engine long enough for the Sea Foam work through the carburetor (3 minutes)
- with air cleaner removed and engine running, spray a series of 4 or 5 bursts of Sea Foam Spray into the carburetor throat, then a final fogging burst to drown out the intake
- remove the spark plug and spray a burst to coat the cylinder cavity
With Sea Foam in the tank and carburetor, and Sea Foam Spray in the chamber area, the entire fuel system is protected and lubricated for long-term storage!
Always remember: Sea Foam is made from highly refined petroleum. It cannot harm an engine and you cannot add too much to fuel. In fact, the more Sea Foam you add to fuel, the better it cleans and protects!
