Yes, Sea Foam is very good for cleaning gummed up 2-cycle engines.
Fuel gum and varnish is the #1 cause of problems in small 2-cycle engines like hard starting, rough running, or stalling. Sea Foam works by liquefying and clearing away those sticky residues in the carburetor and fuel passages so the engine can run properly again.
Here’s what I’d do to clean it up:
- Add a high concentration of Sea Foam to a small amount of fuel (up to about a 1:2 ratio of Sea Foam to fuel.)
- Run the engine for a few minutes to pull the treated fuel into the carburetor and fuel system
- Shut it off and let it soak overnight
- Run it again the next day
Sea Foam is petroleum-based, so it’s okay to use in higher concentrations. Just make sure you’re still using the proper fuel/oil mix for your 2-cycle engine.
