which Sea Foam product should I use to clean up the gas tank? [SOLVED]
Could you clarify which Sea Foam product exactly to use to clean up the gas tank?
Thanks for the question, Alex!
I’d use Sea Foam Motor Treatment (red and white can) or High Mileage (black and silver can). Both are made to clean fuel residues and deposits. High Mileage is formulated as a strong cleaner for higher-mileage vehicles with years of stubborn buildup/deposits. Either one would work!
Hey Gary – yes, you can use Sea Foam to clean up a gas tank. If it’s in a vehicle, here’s what I’d to:
I like to wait until the tank is low (1/4 -1/8 tank), add the whole 16 oz can, and then drive for at least 10-20 miles before refueling. It’s safe to add a high concentration like that and it works very well for cleaning fuel residues and deposits.
If it’s a portable tank or you’ve removed it, here’s how I’d clean it then:
Drain the old fuel. Use a mixture of Sea Foam Motor Treatment (or High Mileage) and fresh fuel at a ratio of 50/50. That ratio will be plenty strong to clean. Pour the mixture in the tank, and let it sit for 24-48 hours. Make sure it’s filled above the “contamination line.” Periodically, move the fuel tank around to get the mixture of Sea Foam and gas moving. It is best if you can get a little heat inside the tank, so leave it outside as long as you can in direct sunlight if that’s an option. Sea Foam works better at higher temperatures. Dispose of the fuel/Sea Foam mix once finished.
Hope that helps and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions!
