WHY A CLEAN OIL SYSTEM
IS IMPORTANT

KEEPING YOUR OIL CRANKCASE CLEAN

It’s common knowledge that changing oil at regular intervals is an essential part of internal combustion engine maintenance — but why is it so important?

All of the critical moving parts of an engine are made of metal and are designed to work together within very precise proximity to each other. Engine oil serves the purpose of preventing moving metal parts from touching each other. For example, piston rings ride on a thin film of oil within each cylinder.

Without the oil, friction would quickly cause damage, overheating and catastrophic failure.
For an engine to retain proper oil circulation, oil is pumped through plain bearing journals to achieve an oil film of sufficient pressure between the shaft and bearing.

High Mileage works to clean oil residues and deposits that can restrict oil flow and cause oil burning.

how to keep your oil system clean

why a clean oil system is important

Pressure in your engine lubrication system is a function of the flow created by the oil pump flowing through the correct restrictions. The restrictions are the volume of the oil supply (galleries and ports) and the bearing-to-shaft tolerances. The tolerances between shaft journal and plain bearing are very tight to achieve this effect.

Because of these tolerances and the bearing material being relatively soft, plain bearing areas of an engine are extremely prone to damage from contamination or low oil pressure. Either of these situations are typically caused by contaminated or degraded oil, problems that develop over time if old oil is not drained and replaced at regular intervals.

The gummy, sticky residue and varnish left from oil breaking down restricts oil flow in journals, galleries, ports, and oil jets. This may not even noticeably reduce overall oil pressure measured in the gallery, but could be starving an area of your engine when under a higher load. With manufacturers commonly recommending longer periods between oil changes, these conditions are more and more prevalent.

HOW TO CLEAN an OIL SYSTEM

Minor deposits from degraded oil are not permanent, and do not require engine removal and disassembly to remove. Sea Foam Motor Treatment is a petroleum-based product that reliquefies sticky gummy varnish and residue from old oil.

Keep your engine’s lubrication system working properly by adding Sea Foam Motor Treatment or High Mileage to your crankcase a few hundred miles before each oil change. Using Sea Foam as a pre-treatment allows all the varnish in your engine to re-liquefy. This gives all that degraded oil varnish the opportunity to drain out when you change your oil. Use Sea Foam Motor Treatment before each oil change to keep your engine clean and running its best.

How high mileage cleans oil systems

Regardless of oil blend quality, no motor oil is able to clean its own residue buildup or contaminants that form as oil breaks down.
Adding High Mileage to oil on a regular basis will go a long way to keeping your engine crankcase and piston rings clean from harmful buildup, helping your engine run better and last longer.

High Mileage reliquifies oil residue and varnish so it can be drained away when the oil is changed. Add 1 oz of High Mileage per quart of oil 100-300 miles before your next oil change.

CHANGE OIL
“I never change my oil without first running a hundred miles or so with a can in the crankcase. Oil stays clean longer. Great stuff. I use in the gas tank every month also. 1998 Tacoma 211,000 miles.”

FANTASTIC PRODUCT
“I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 with 330,000 miles on it. I use Sea Foam in both my oil and gas. I get just under 20 mpg regularly, and the engine uses no oil whatsoever between oil changes. Smooth idle and good acceleration as well. I highly recommend this product!”

NOT A SPECK OF VARNISH OR SLUDGE
“I bought an older harley that had been used for 25 years with non-detergent oil, you can imagine the build-up of sludge and varnish in the motor. I was shocked at what came out of the crank case the first oil change after using sea foam. Now the heads and valve springs are clean as a whistle.”
