HOW TO USE SEA FOAM FOR ENGINE STORAGE AND STABILIZING FUEL
BENEFITS
DIRECTIONS
SUMMARY
Sea Foam Motor Treatment works to stabilize stored fuel up to 2 years. Adding Sea Foam to stored tanks helps fuel resist evaporation, preserves ignition vapors, adds protective lubricity, and prevents the formation of gum and varnish in fuel systems. Gum and varnish residues are the most common cause of poor engine function. Using Sea Foam in stored fuel will help your engines start easier and last longer.

RELATED QUESTIONS
How much Sea Foam can I place directly into a chainsaw or a weedeater?
Thanks for the question!
You can safely use Sea Foam in both a chainsaw and a weedeater. The amount you add depends on what you’re trying to achieve:
For regular use / preventative maintenance: Add 2 ounces of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel. This will prevent gum and varnish from forming as well as prevent the fuel from degrading.
For a strong cleaning (if it’s running rough or hasn’t been cleaned before): Create a high cleaning concentration with something like the following ratio:
- 8 oz of Sea Foam in 16–32 oz of fuel (up to a 1:2 ratio of Sea Foam to gas)
Run the engine for a few minutes to pull the treated fuel into the carburetor, then let it sit and soak overnight. After that, run it as normal. The high concentration works very well to clean varnish and residue from small engine fuel systems.
It’s safe to use a lot of Sea Foam in small equipment like that and it works well to clean.
Can I use Seafoam Motor Treatment to stabilize fuel over the winter in a 2025 Hyundai Palisade?
Thanks for the question. Yes, you can use Sea Foam Motor Treatment for storing your Palisade over the winter. It’ll prevent fuel from degrading, preserve ignition vapors, and prevent fuel gum and varnish from forming while it sits. I’d add a can or two of Sea Foam to the fuel tank and be sure to drive it (25-50 miles) at some point before you store it so the treated fuel gets drawn through the system.
Can I add Sea Foam to 2 stroke gas?
I only use a tank of fuel every 2-3 months in my 1980 Porsche 928. Is it ok to add Sea Foam at every fill up?
Same question for my boat with 1997 Crusader 454 inboards, I always add 1 oz for each gallon of fuel when I fill up.
Hi George,
Thanks for the question! Yes, it is okay to add Sea Foam to every fill up of your Porsche’s gas tank. It will work to prevent fuel gum and varnish from forming while the vehicle sits, as well as keep your entire fuel system clean. It’s an easy way to prevent gum and varnish from forming while it’s not being used. There’s no downside to using it in every tank.
You can also add Sea Foam to every fill up for your Crusader. That’s a good plan and what Sea Foam recommends since boats often sit for longer periods of time, and the Sea Foam ensures that the fuel doesn’t degrade and gum and varnish don’t form while it sits. I’d also consider using Marine PRO, the marine version of Sea Foam. Either one will work, but Marine PRO comes in a larger 20 oz can and is a good cleaner.
Hope that helps and let me know if there’s anything else!
Best,
Conner

Can I add Sea Foam to my 8 gallon Firman gas generator? And if so, do I add the whole can, or split it with my truck?
Thanks for the question!
Yes, you can add Sea Foam to your generator. It’ll work to clean fuel residues and prevent them from forming. Go ahead and add the whole 16 oz can. While the minimum recommended dosage is 1 oz per gallon of fuel, creating a higher concentration of Sea Foam to fuel will increase the cleaning power and is the best way to get the most out of a can. If you won’t be running the generator for a while, run it for at least 15 minutes after adding the Sea Foam to draw the treated fuel through the system.
