RELATED QUESTIONS
Hi, I believe my fuel system is acting up. It’s starting to stutter when I drive it at steady speed and steady rpm’s, especially at lower speeds. I was wondering, until I can get it in the shop is it ok to add a whole 16oz can to maybe 2 to 4 gallons of gas and drive it till its basically on E? I’m right under a quarter tank now, so I was wondering if I can add a 16 oz can without putting in more gas? I have a 2015 Chevy Impala. I believe it’s a 2.4 liter engine with the V6. Thank you.
Hey Dan – this is a great question! You are on the right track with your idea to add a full can to a low tank of fuel.
It is okay to add a whole 16oz can of Sea Foam to 2-4 gallons of gas and drive it until almost empty. In fact, that will create a high concentration that will do a great job cleaning. If the stuttering is caused by anything dirty in the fuel system, the Sea Foam will help clear it up. It’s safe to add that amount. You do not have to add any more gas.
High Mileage would be a great choice as well.
Hope that helps!
So is it ok to put Sea Foam Motor Treatment in the oil with a oil change and run it 3000 miles?
Thanks for the question, John. Sea Foam in oil works to reliquefy residues and deposits so they can be drained away when you change your oil.
You can add the Sea Foam at any time, so that would work. It’s safe to run in there for 3,000 miles.
That said, we recommend adding it 100-300 miles before you change your oil. That way, it has time to circulate and clean, and then you can drain away all the reliquefied residues with the old oil.
Hope that helps!
I have a ’68 Corvair with 84,000 miles. I added 4 ounces of Sea Foam to the engine oil to help with sticky lifters. Do I need to be concerned with sludge breaking loose and plugging the oil pick up screen?
Good question, Mark. Sea Foam reliquefies heavier oil deposits and residues so they can be drained away when you change the oil. There’s no need to worry about plugging the oil pick up screen since the residues/deposits won’t break off in large chunks.
I have a RAM 1500 v8 truck. Can you add Sea Foam Motor Treatment to oil? If so, how to, and how much?
Yes, you can absolutely add Sea Foam Motor Treatment (or High Mileage) to the oil of your RAM 1500. It will clean and prevent oil residues and deposits from forming in the crankcase and in oil passageways.
Add 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil. While you can add it at any time, we recommend adding it 100-300 miles before your next oil change. That gives the Sea Foam a chance to circulate and clean, and lets you drain away all the residues that Sea Foam cleaned up when you change the oil.
Will Sea Foam Motor Treatment clean out a fuel pickup tube?
Sea Foam Motor Treatment or Sea Foam High Mileage will dissolve any gum or varnish residues that are restricting flow on a sock or screen of a fuel pickup tube. If the pickup is dirty with debris (dirt, rust, etc.), Sea Foam is unfortunately not going to be effective.
The level of contamination will determine how much Sea Foam to use. If you only want to clean the tank/pickup, use 2-3 ounces of Sea Foam per gallon of gasoline. If you believe that the tank/pickup is extremely dirty, use 5-6 ounces per gallon of fuel. I like to pour a full 16 oz can of High Mileage in a low tank (2-4 gallons of fuel), and then drive until almost empty before refueling. The high concentration does a great job cleaning.
