2015 Volvo XC60 burning oil [SOLVED]
Hello, I own a 2015 Volvo XC60. Am experiencing lots of oil consumption, adding 1 quart almost every 400 miles. I did some research, and the bottom rings on pistons seem to be clogged. I am also experiencing some blue smoke coming out of the tail pipes each time I press the engine to change speeds from like 4th to 3rd gear, or 7th to 6th in order to thrust forward faster.
Hi George. That’s a lot of oil consumption and I’m going to suppose that you’ve had this motor looked at by a professional. In any case, I would start adding half a can of Sea Foam High Mileage to the oil every interval and pay attention to the consumption. It will help if you’re dealing with clogged or stuck rings, but will require a commitment to several treatments. Another thought is to start the habit of Sea Foam Spray treatments (3 to 4 per year) through the throttle body, then allow a long soak period after the treatment – this will allow cleaning of the rings from the upper engine side of the pistons. Burned oil has a blue tint when emitted out the tailpipe (expected).
