Can I use Sea Foam in my diesel engine? [SOLVED]
Hello. A few questions:
– Can I use Sea Foam in my 2002 Class A motorhome’s fuel (Cummins diesel)?
– Same as above for the Oman diesel generator?
– Does it prevent diesel fuel from turning to gel in cold weather?
Thanks!
Yes to all of the above Tim. Sea Foam Motor Treatment is safe and effective when used in any diesel engine fuel (and crankcase oil!). In fuel it will work well to clean injectors and add upper engine lubricity. In oil it works to clean and liquefy heavier oil residues and deposits. As far as diesel gelling goes, it will help a bit but if less than 10F be sure to use anti-gel diesel fuel or an anti-gel treatment that’s specialized for colder temps. Diesel starts to gel at 17F so look for a product that lowers the pour point beyond the temps you anticipate.
Will Seafoam High Mileage work in Diesel engine to prevent gelling in cold temps?
Thanks for the question Jeremy. You’d be better off using a specialized anti-gel product.
Can I use Sea Foam in a newer diesel that has a DPF in the exhaust? I have a 2008 Mercedes GL320CDI turbo diesel with only a DPF filter in the exhaust and want to make sure it wont hurt the engine or the DPF. Thank you.
Thanks for the question. Sea Foam would have no effect whatsoever/no relation to how a diesel particulate filter (DPF) works. Hope this helps!
Hello can I use Sea Foam Motor Treatment in a 2017 kenworth t680 with a cummins x15 to help clean it out
Yes, you can add Sea Foam Motor Treatment to fuel and oil in a Kenworth T680.
Another popular way to use it is to prime diesel fuel filters:
Hi Jacob,
Unfortunately not. Once the fuel has burned in the cylinders there is no Sea Foam left to clean the exhaust. A DPF Cleaner will need to be used. Typically, a DPF cleaner is introduced directly into the front of the DPF via the front temperature sensor. Sea Foam when used regularly will help keep the DPF clean in the future.
Could Sea Foam Motor Treatment be introduced into the exhaust manifold in a diesel EGR system to reduce deposits in the EGR valve and cooler?
Great question Roland. In theory, when Sea Foam is introduced to carbon, varnish, gum residues or other contaminants it begins to break down the contamination and allow it to be re-liquified in order to be burned or drained.
However, we do NOT recommend introducing Sea Foam Products to a diesel engine air intake system.
Yes, Sea Foam Motor Treatment is safe and effective in a Cadillac DTS.
Hello!
Will this work on my T5 1.9 TDi AXB engine to help clear carbon build up in the exhaust valves + injectors?
Thanks!
In a diesel, Sea Foam will help clean up injectors. Unfortunately, it won’t help with exhaust valves.
Hi, Can I add Sea Foam directly to a partially blocked DPF filter via the oxygen/pressure sensor hole?
