Can I use Sea Foam Motor Treatment instead of oil in 2-stroke fuel? [SOLVED]
Can I use Sea Foam Motor Treatment instead of oil in 2-stroke fuel?
I have been using Sea Foam as a stabilizer and cleaner in the fuel on my older (1980s) 40 horse Force outboard motor. I have also been mixing with the appropriate (50:1) amount of oil. When I was reading the can of Sea Foam, it says, “For 2-stroke pre-mix add 2 ounces per gallon.” Does this mean that Sea Foam can be used as the only additive in the fuel for my outboard? Or is it recommended to use a normal oil at the recommended 50:1 and use Sea Foam in addition to this for cleaning and stabilization?
Good question, Paul, and thanks for the note!
Sea Foam is not a replacement for oil in 2-stroke fuel. Use a normal oil at the recommended ratio, and add Sea Foam in addition for cleaning and stabilization. Keep doing what you’ve been doing in your outboard.
Perhaps “In 2-stroke pre-mix” would be a better way to word it on the can. Thanks for the question!
