Can I use Sea Foam to de-varnish my tank and fuel system? [SOLVED]
Hi there,
I have a 1986 mk2 golf Gti that has been sat for the last 24 months with a small amount of petrol in its tank. Can I use Sea Foam to de-varnish my tank and fuel system and if so what proportion to use?
Thanks for the question, Henry! Yes, Sea Foam is good at cleaning up varnish in a fuel tank and fuel system.
If the fuel is two years old, your vehicle should start and run fine. Here’s what I’d do: add a gallon of fresh fuel to the tank. Then, add an entire can of Sea Foam Motor Treatment. Drive the vehicle until almost empty before refueling. The high concentration of Sea Foam will clean up varnish in the fuel tank and fuel system.
If you’d like, you can repeat the process to make sure everything is as clean as possible. Just wait until you have a low tank of fuel, add a full can of Sea Foam, and drive it until almost empty before refueling.
