Can you use Sea Foam motor treatment with ethanol gasoline? [SOLVED]
I’ve been using ethanol-free 90 octane in my “toys” (e.g. my Harley Davidson motorcycle, ’51 Ford F1, and my ’31 Model A). If I started using ethanol fuel, would Sea Foam Motor Treatment help with problems caused by ethanol in my gas? Will it address all the problems attributed to ethanol and carburetors? I already use Sea Foam in our late model fuel injected everyday drivers, and am very pleased. Please let me know.
Hi Ben. Two answers: (1) One rule of thumb is avoid ethanol gasoline for any auto or motorcycle engine older than the late nineties. Your old Fords are not built from ethanol-proof fuel system parts that are able to resist the corrosive combination of ethyl alcohol and water. Just too risky! (2) Because Sea Foam adds protective lubricity to fuel and fuel system parts, it will always help. Even though Sea Foam will help protect against ethanol and water, be careful not to buy into any false sense of security that a fuel additive is going to completely counter the harmful effects of ethanol, particularly when left in a tank for a long period of time. It’s also important to add that ethanol works very well in modern engine fuel systems that are built for it. No worries there.
