How much High Mileage in each cylinder for piston soak? [SOLVED]
Hi, if I want to use Sea Foam High Mileage to do a piston soak on my 2006 mx5 (suspected gummed up oil rings), how much do I add per cylinder? And for how long? I’ve read in one of the answers 1/4 ounce per cylinder, which is about 7.5ml in UK measurements. It seems very little. Thanks.
Great question Ash. What I typically recommend is 1/4(7.5 ml) to 1/2 ounce(15 ml) added to each cylinder through the spark plug hole. Rotate the engine back and forth a few times, don’t make a full rotation. Let the Sea Foam High Mileage sit in the cylinders for 12-24 hours and repeat the process one additional time. Before reinstalling or replacing the spark plugs, use the engine starter to turn the engine over for 10-15 seconds to clear any remaining Sea Foam out of the cylinders, then install the spark plugs. Once the engine has been restarted and allowed to reach operating temp, we advise to change the engine oil. Any Sea Foam and dissolved contaminates will seep past the piston rings and fall down into the engine oil. Note: the exhaust will smoke a lot upon initial start-up.
