How to clean the fuel injectors and system in a boat that been sitting for a while [SOLVED]
I just bought a 2002 Cruisers 3372. The engines are 6.2L Mercruisers, the two gas tanks hold 115 gallons each and are currently at about 30% full. The boat has been sitting for awhile, no telling how long, but they do start and seem to run well. What do I need to do to clean up the system and also clean the injectors?
Thanks for the question Cletus. What I would do to clean a big boat’s fuel system: Start by thinking in terms of cleaning concentration – with Sea Foam treatments the more (Marine PRO in this case) you add to fuel, the better and faster it will work to clean fuel passageways. Considering you currently have around 40 gallons in each tank, run the engines as normal until one of the tanks is down to a very low amount of fuel. At that point you can add several cans of Marine PRO to the low fuel to create a higher cleaning concentration, then run each engine for at least 20 minutes on the concentrated cleaning mix. If the tanks are dedicated to each engine you’ll have to do the same for each tank. Other applications to consider are using a fuel rail canister (mechanic shops use) or if you can access the fuel tank lines near the engines and run a cleaning mixture from a portable gas tank. I hope this makes sense!
