Intake cleaning with Sea Foam Spray – lots of questions [SOLVED]
I saw a video from the Sea Foam official channel on YouTube that shows to add 2 whole cans to 1/8 of a tank, then spray 2 cans into air intake. It was also mentioned I should drive 20 miles… so just wondering if I should put the treatment in the fuel, then spray into the intake? Or drive the 20 miles and then spray into the intake? Also, is 2 cans of each excessive and could it do damage? I have a 20 gallon tank, so 1/8 of a tank is about 2.5 gallons. Does Sea Foam act as fuel when that much is put in? I’m just thinking I might not make it 20 miles on 2.5 gallons in my big v8 that isn’t getting good gas mileage.
Those are great questions, Joe! You must be referring to the video on how to pass an emissions test.

Answers:
- add 2 cans of Sea Foam or High Mileage to the fuel before doing the intake treatment
- you can’t add too much Sea Foam to fuel and cannot do harm, so two cans is never too much – adding 2 cans to 2.5 gallons is great!
- because your vehicle gets lower MPG, you only need to drive 10 miles considering the key is to drive long enough to get the higher treatment concentration working through the upper engine
Hope this helps!
With two throttle bodies you can clean through both using half the can of Sea Foam Spray each. A full can will spray for 4 to 5 minutes so stop the first throttle body treatment after two minutes, then shut off the engine to change the straw location. Once ready, start the engine and continue through the second throttle body until the can is empty.
Is Sea Foam intake spray cleaner safe for turbo charged gas engines? Mine is the Chevy 1.5L turbo charged. Should I use only half a can on such a small engine?
Hey Mike – thanks for the question. Yes, Sea Foam Spray is safe in a turbo. You can use a full can on your Chevy. Sea Foam Spray is made with 100% safe petroleum cleaning ingredients. It won’t hurt anything, and the full can would be good to get everything as clean as possible. Let us know if you have any other questions!
