Sea Foam for a bike that’s been sitting for 6 months? [SOLVED]
I’ve have a bike that’s been sitting for about 6 months and I want to use Sea Foam to degunk the jets as it’s not able to run without the choke right now. In order to use the treatment do I need to drain all the existing fuel and replace it with new fuel or is it ok to use the current fuel?
Thanks for the question! The best practice for fuel that’s been sitting like that is to drain it. Fresh fuel will have better volatility for starting and won’t have any gum or varnish. However, you could add some Sea Foam and give it a shot if the fuel is only 6 months old. Your goal will be to draw enough treated fuel into the fuel system to clean up the jets, let it sit overnight, and then run it again the next day.
Whether you drain it or not, add a full 16oz can of Sea Foam to a low volume (about 1 gallon) of fuel. Then, run it for a few minutes to get the treated fuel into the fuel system. Let it sit overnight, and start it up the next day and let it run for a while.
