Sea Foam for lifter noise [SOLVED]
I have a 2014 Hyundai Veloster 1.6 manual that developed a tick in the engine. I work from home so my car sits very often for several days or a week at a time. If I already added Sea Foam Motor Treatment to the gas tank, can I also add some in the oil crankcase to clean the lifters?
Hey Joshua – thanks for the question!
You can definitely add Sea Foam to the oil and fuel at the same time.
Here’s what I’d do with the crankcase: add 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil. We recommend adding it 100-300 miles before your next oil change, but if you want to clean lifters go ahead and add some now and keep an eye on your oil color. If it gets dark or dirty, change the oil.
It might take a few oil change cycles to clean things out, but Sea Foam will certainly clean up the crankcase and help overcome the noisy lifter problem if it’s caused by gum or varnish. Adding Sea Foam to every oil interval will progressively clean out the buildup that has formed as an engine gains miles.
High Mileage Motor Treatment would be another great choice (it’s made to clean stubborn deposits and residues).
Hope that helps!
