What should I do with the gas and oil of a car that has been sitting for years? [SOLVED]
I have an old car with very low mileage, which has been sitting, just a few starts here and there to warm up, for years. What are your recommendations for gas and oil?
Good question, Mike!
You’ll first want to get rid of the old gas and oil, and then use Sea Foam High Mileage to clean buildup that formed in the fuel and oil systems while it was sitting.
Here’s what I would do: Start by removing (siphon/drain) as much fuel as possible from the tank. Once the tank is empty, add a can of Sea Foam High Mileage and 2-3 gallons of fresh fuel to the tank. If it starts and runs, run through as much of the fuel as possible so the fresh fuel and Sea Foam mix can clean and flush out the whole fuel system. It will do a great job cleaning out any residues and varnish that formed while the vehicle was sitting.
For the oil, start by changing it right away. Drive about 700 miles on the fresh oil, and add some High Mileage to the oil crankcase (1 oz of High Mileage per quart of oil). After that, drive another 100-300 miles to give it some time to circulate and clean, and change the oil again. From there, you can follow your regularly scheduled oil changes. The High Mileage will help clean up oil residues and deposits.
