Will Sea Foam help my 2004 GMC Sierra that’s running rough after sitting four years? [SOLVED]
On a 2004 GMC sierra the truck sat for 4and a half years I put a new Battery it had some gas in it but I think that the fuel was bad or had water in it so I added about 5 gallons to it and it’s still running pretty rough the minute it fired up and I got it home and that guy told me just to put some seafoam so I just don’t know what it will do or will help it once I get it fired up and going. It takes me a minute to get it to start, but once it starts to run.
Thanks for the question! Sea Foam in the gas tank works to clean up fuel residues or deposits that formed in the fuel system while the truck sat. That’s often the cause of performance problems like rough running in this case. Sea Foam (or any other fuel additive) won’t restore old gas or remove large amounts of water from the tank. But if a dirty fuel system is the cause of the problem, Sea Foam will help. If not, you’re one step closer to diagnosing what’s happening, and a cleaner fuel system can only help.
Here’s what I’d do: if the truck still runs, drive it until the fuel tank is low (1/8 to 1/4 tank). Then, add a full 16 oz can of Sea Foam High Mileage. Drive it until almost empty before refueling with fresh gas. The high concentration of Sea Foam in the gas tank will work well to clean things up. You can repeat that process (adding a full can to a low tank and driving it) another time if you’d like.
Keep me posted on how it goes if you try it! And feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
