USING SEA FOAM IN A WET CLUTCH OIL SYSTEM
Wet clutches, or lubricated clutches, typically run in the same oil as the engine in your bike or ATV.
The oil helps to keep clutch plates cool and also makes wet clutches quieter than dry clutches, which — as the name implies — operate without oil. These benefits have made wet clutches common in today’s machines.
sea foam motor treatment
When it comes to routine engine maintenance, there’s often a question about whether a wet clutch oil system requires special treatment.
Will certain oils or engine treatments damage the clutch? The reality is that, just like all vehicles, each bike and ATV is designed to run with a specific oil grade and viscosity, terms that relate to flow and performance at operating temperature. In short, using the manufacturer’s recommended oil is important. That said, all motor oil breaks down over time. As it degrades, harmful residues and deposits can restrict flow and lubrication of engine components — and your clutch.
A clutch that is slipping or doesn’t feel like it’s working properly could be malfunctioning because of oil issues, whether that’s a lack of oil, the wrong oil (using automotive oil, for example), or old, dirty oil that has degraded. Adding Sea Foam Motor Treatment (or High Mileage) to your crankcase 100 to 200 miles before changing your oil and filter can help dissolve and clean deposits, keeping your engine and wet clutch operating as they should. Just add one ounce of Sea Foam Motor Treatment for every quart of oil.
How sea foam helps
wet clutch oil systems
Adding Sea Foam to oil on a regular basis will go a long way towards keeping your oil system clean from harmful buildup, helping your engine run better and last longer.
Sea Foam reliquefies oil residue and varnish so it can be drained away when the oil is changed. Add 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil 100-300 miles before your next oil change.
