HOW TO FIX GAS IN SMALL ENGINE OIL

Getting Rid of Gas in Your Small Engine’s Oil

You checked your oil level, and found it quite a bit overfull. It looked thin and smelled like gas. It may also be hard to start, run rich, and use more fuel than normal. Also, the oil level being too high can cause the crankshaft to whip air into the oil, making it very hard to pump consistently.

This is a major concern as gasoline makes a poor lubricant!
Make certain the contaminated oil is drained before doing anything else. Once that’s done, you can move on to diagnosing the problem — which is a fairly common one — so you can do an effective repair.

SEA FOAM MOTOR TREATMENT

cleans and prevents harmful fuel residues and varnish

Consistent maintenance is essential for keeping small engines running at their best. Adding Sea Foam Motor Treatment to fuel is an easy way to prevent harmful fuel residues that often cause small engine problems.

By integrating Sea Foam products into your routine, you can ensure your equipment stays in great shape and lasts longer, providing reliable performance season after season.

how to diagnose and remove gas in small engine oil

what seals fuel in the carb when the engine is off?

Your engine’s carburetor is designed to maintain a specific fuel level. The parts that stop fuel from flowing into the carb when the engine is not running are the float, needle, and seat. They function as follows:

  • The seat is where fuel flows from the tank into the carb bowl.
  • The needle seals to the seat and can stop fuel flow.
  • The needle is connected to the float.
  • The float is designed to move with the fuel level in the carb bowl. When the gas in the bowl gets high enough, the float raises and pushes the needle into the seat, shutting off fuel flow from the tank.
how to diagnose

Start by draining the gas from the carb bowl. Use a container rated for gasoline, or the gas may break down the container. The bowl drain may be a thumb screw or a bolt. Once drained, remove the bowl and inspect for varnish and deposits inside the bowl. Also check the movement of the float. If you can feel any sticking, cleaning is in order. Sea Foam Spray will reliquefy these deposits for easy removal.

If cleaning does not resolve the sticking, then removing the float, needle, and seat is the next step. Inspect the needle. It should be conical and consistent. If it is hard or deformed, it will not seal properly and will allow the bowl to overfill.

Also inspect the float pivot or linkage, and that the float hasn’t leaked or saturated, keeping it from floating in a full fuel bowl.

treat your fuel to prevent another failure

Once your repair is complete and you have fresh oil in the engine, it is time to protect yourself from a repeat problem.

Most failures in this system could be caused by aging fuel. Unlike many other carb cleaners, Sea Foam Motor Treatment will not damage your plastic or rubber parts, like the float or needle seal, by causing swelling or warping. An ounce per gallon of gas prevents the sticking and clogging from aging fuel deposits that cause this inconvenient failure.

how sea foam helps prevent small engine problems

Most small engine problems are fuel varnish problems, not engine problems.
Clean the fuel varnish problem and you fix the engine. Sea Foam works fast to clean and prevent fuel gum and varnish. Use Sea Foam and fresh gas (never use old gas) if you want your small engine carburetor to stay clean so it can start faster, run smoother, and last longer without problems.
