SUMMARY
Sea Foam Motor Treatment can be used in every type of gasoline or diesel engine. When added to an engine’s oil crankcase, Sea Foam Motor Treatment works to clean and liquefy heavier oil deposits, so the residues will drain away when the oil is changed. Sea Foam cleans internal engine parts, prevents sludge and other harmful oil formations.

Is Sea Foam good for an ’87 chevy square body’s engine?
Thanks for the question!
Yes, Sea Foam products are safe to use in an ’87 Chevy Square Body.
If you’re asking about Sea Foam Motor Treatment, you can use it in both the fuel tank and the oil. It will work to clean fuel residues, gum, and varnish in the fuel system, and clean oil residues and deposits in the crankcase.
If you’re asking about Sea Foam Spray, it’s also safe to use on that engine for upper engine cleaning. Just follow the directions on the can.
Those older carbureted Chevy engines are actually great candidates for Sea Foam because fuel gum and varnish is a very common cause of rough running, hard starting, and poor performance as they age.
Can I add Sea Foam in my 1998 Honda civic DX hatchback motor oil?
Thanks for the question!
Yes, you can add Sea Foam Motor Treatment to the oil in your 1998 Honda Civic DX. Add 1 ounce of Sea Foam per quart of oil in the crankcase. We recommend adding it 100–300 miles before your next oil change. That gives the Sea Foam enough time to circulate and clean, and it allows the reliquefied oil residues and deposits to be drained away with the old oil.
Sea Foam in the oil works to clean oil residues and deposits that can build up over time and restrict oil flow.
Just be sure not to exceed 1 ounce per quart of oil.
Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
Can I add Sea Foam to motorcycle oil with a wet Clutch? If so, follow the standard 1 oz per quart? And use for 200 miles before replacing oil?
What benefits might happen when doing this before every oil change?
By adding a can of Sea Foam to my engine oil or my gas, what will I do for my 2021 Chevy Malibu RS?
Thanks for the question, Rodney. The biggest thing that Sea Foam will do for your Malibu is clean residues and deposits (which form over time in any engine) from your fuel and oil systems. Those residues and deposits often cause common engine problems like loss of fuel efficiency, loss of power, rough idle, and oil burning. The most important thing Sea Foam does is liquefy and clean away those residues so the engine can continue to run its best, or overcome problems caused by a dirty fuel or oil system. It’s a cost-effective and easy form of preventative maintenance.
Here’s what I’d do to get the most cleaning power when adding Sea Foam to the gas tank:
- Wait until the tank is low (about 1/4 tank or less)
- Add a full 16 oz can of Sea Foam
- Drive at least 10-20 miles (or until nearly empty) before refueling
The high concentration works much better and faster than adding it to a full tank.
You can also add Sea Foam to the oil. Add 1 ounce per quart of oil in the crankcase 100-300 miles before your next oil change. Sea Foam will reliquefy heavier oil residues and deposits so they can drain away with the old oil.
How much Sea Foam should I use in my 2005 Harley Davidson sportster 1200 crank case and how long or how many miles should I run it in order to clean contaminants out of my bike?
Thanks for the question! Add 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil in the crankcase. Best practice is to run it at least 100 miles before you change your oil (just ride normally until you reach 100 miles – you don’t need to ride it 100 miles right away).
