1995 Ford Tempo GL with high miles and a dirty throttle body [SOLVED]
Asked by C D. In Michigan
Hi Sea Foam. I have a 94 Ford Tempo GL with 711,123 miles and the throttle body is caked with gunk . I tried to clean as far as my hand could reach into the manifold. It’s still horribly dirty! I think I got a little bit of acceleration power back but take off is still slow. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the question, CD. What I’d do: The best Sea Foam solution for cleaning your Tempo’s upper intake is Sea Foam Spray through the throttle body. It will work to clean harmful buildup from the intake manifold, the intake valves, and chamber areas. I would try at least one treatment just to see what happens. If you notice a lot of darker emissions smoke after application, do another treatment. I’d also start adding High Mileage Motor Treatment to your fuel and oil crankcase. In fuel, a can to a low tank every two months. To oil, add half a can to your Tempo’s oil crankcase every interval to help oil flow. If your intake manifold is particularly dirty, try a 5-second burst of Sea Foam Spray into the intake manifold (after running/warming-up the engine), then let it soak for 5 minutes before starting back up to begin the treatment. Hope this makes sense!
