How much Sea Foam in 4.5 gallon motorcycle tank [SOLVED]
How much should I add to a motorcycle gas tank that only holds 4.5 gallons?
Hi Cody,
For cleaning, we recommend adding at least 2 oz of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel in the tank.
If you’re adding it to every tank of fuel for routine maintenance, add 1 oz per gallon.
What I’d do:
If it’s your first time using Sea Foam, add an entire can to about 2 gallons of fuel, and then drive it until almost empty before refueling. That concentration works very well to clean an engine. Sea Foam is made with 100% safe petroleum cleaning and lubricating ingredients, so it’s okay to add at that level (and it does a great job cleaning!).
After that, add 1 oz of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel to every tank, or repeat the high concentration method a few times a year.
Hey Jerry
For a 4.5-gallon fuel tank on your Harley, here are a few good guidelines:
For regular use / preventative maintenance:
Add 1 ounce of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel, so about 4.5 ounces for a full tank.
For cleaning (best results):
Wait until the tank is low (about 1 gallon), then add the full 16 oz can of Sea Foam Motor Treatment. Ride until you’ve used most of the treated fuel before refueling. The higher concentration works much better and faster to clean fuel residues and deposits.
For storage:
Add 1 ounce (or more) per gallon of fuel before storing the bike. Sea Foam will help stabilize the fuel and help prevent gum and varnish from forming while it sits.
Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
