Using Sea Foam in oil – 2007 Dodge RAM 1500 [SOLVED]
I was going to pick up some Sea Foam today to add to the oil in my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 – 5.7l engine with 215,000 km on the odometer.
Store guy bragged up the product but advised to drain the old oil first, put in new oil along with the Sea Foam, then run for a couple of hours, drain the oil and then complete the oil change.
I typically use synthetic oil but suggestion was to put in regular oil with the Sea Foam…
Do you think there would be an advantage to this approach or a waste of time and extra oil?
Hi Don. Yikes! The store guy’s idea would cause too much trouble and too much cost! Just as the directions on the can show, 1) open the filler cap and pour 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil in the crankcase, 2) add 100 to 300 miles before for the end of each oil interval. Note that you can add Sea Foam to oil at any time, but everything else you were told is made-up information. In any case, we are very glad you took the time to verify!
