Using straight Sea Foam to clean diesel fuel injectors – filter method [SOLVED]

Can I pour a 100% Sea Foam Motor Treatment into my diesel engine fuel filter? If so, is there a sequence I need to follow after I have started the engine? I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 HD 6.6 liter diesel.

Good question.

Yes, you can. Here’s a summary of the instructions:

Getting started: Add a cleaning dosage of Sea Foam Motor Treatment to the fuel tank. Best to

add at least 2 ounces per gallon of fuel when tank is low to maximize treatment concentration. I like to add a full can (16 oz) to a low tank of fuel (1/8-1/4 of a tank).

  1. Start and warm up the engine to operating temperature, then shut off.
  2. Remove the primary fuel filter and drain the filter/filter housing. Though not required, we recommend installing a new filter.
  1. Depending on filter type, fill entire filter/housing cavity with straight Sea Foam.
  2. Install the new filter while making sure there is no air in the filter or housing.
  3. With the filter primed, start the engine and let it run for one to two minutes, then shut off the engine.
  1. Allow five to fifteen minutes for the Sea Foam to hot soak into the deposit buildup.
  2. After the soak period, restart the engine and be prepared to drive/operate for approximately 30 miles or 30 minutes. Don’t be afraid to run the engine hard when possible and safe. An engine under load produces the necessary heat and compression for optimal cleaning.

Hope that helps!

So my friend has a 6.9 1987 Ford F-250 we did this per instructions and his engine sounds more crisp , more in tune and just overall idle smoother , before it would miss like a loping idle and shake and just sounded wrong and now what a difference, It works
