SUMMARY
Pour Sea Foam in your fuel tank to clean and lubricate your entire fuel system. It works through fuel injectors and carburetors to remove harmful residues and deposits from fuel passageways, intake valves, pistons, and chamber areas.
For cleaning a gasoline or diesel fuel system, it’s safe to add more Sea Foam to fuel. In fact, the more Sea Foam you add to fuel, the better it cleans!
Made from petroleum ingredients, Sea Foam is safe and effective when used in all types of gasoline or diesel fuels and fuel blends. Sea Foam does NOT contain harsh detergent or abrasive chemicals that can harm your engine or fuel system components.

Does Sea Foam help with residue build-up caused by ethanol in small engines?
Thanks for the question! Sea Foam cleans fuel residues and varnish that form over time in any fuel system. It’ll help overcome and prevent common problems often caused by residue build up in small engines (like rough performance, hard starting, etc.). To clean residues and varnish in your small engines, add a high concentration of Sea Foam to a low tank of fuel (1:2 ratio of Sea Foam to fuel). Then, run the engine for about ten minutes, shut it off, and let it soak overnight. Start it up the next day and run it for a while.
For small engines, I like to use non-ethanol fuel, and avoid letting the fuel sit in the tank for long periods of time.
As far as ethanol goes, here’s part of an answer from another question:
“Because Sea Foam adds protective lubricity to fuel and fuel system parts, it will always help. Even though Sea Foam will help protect against ethanol and water, be careful not to buy into any false sense of security that a fuel additive is going to completely counter the harmful effects of ethanol, particularly when left in a tank for a long period of time.” (Note: in modern car and truck engines that are built to handle ethanol, there’s no need to worry about ethanol destroying fuel system parts on its own).

How much Sea Foam in full tank of fuel in 2006 Cadillac DTS?
Good question, Vic. For cleaning, I’d recommend waiting until the tank is low in your Cadillac before adding Sea Foam. That will let you create a high cleaning concentration that works faster and better than adding the same amount to a full tank.
Here’s what I’d do: wait until the tank is low (1/4 -1/8 tank), add the whole 16 oz can, and then drive for at least 10-20 miles before refueling. It’s safe to add a high concentration like that and it works very well for cleaning fuel residues and deposits.
For storage or preventative maintenance, add at least 1 ounce of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel in the tank.
I only used one can with my first treatment at 96k miles in my 2011 Camry today, Would it help to do a second treatment in a row with my next tank of gas? And possibly use two cans? I used high mileage.
Good question, Chelsea! We recommend adding Sea Foam to your gas tank every 3-5,000 miles, or once or twice a year. You can certainly add it more frequently, but doing one treatment in that time frame is plenty. High Mileage is a great choice as it’s a very good cleaner.
As far as how much High Mileage to use, here’s what I’d do: wait until the tank is low (1/4 -1/8 tank). Then, add the whole 16 oz can, and drive for at least 10-20 miles before refueling. It’s safe to add a high concentration like that and it works very well for cleaning fuel residues and deposits. By waiting until the tank is low, you can create a high cleaning concentration without having to use two cans.
Can you use Sea Foam in a 2020 hybrid engine?
Yes, you can use Sea Foam in a 2020 hybrid engine. Just follow the directions on the can. Also, check out the article on our site on using Sea Foam in hybrid vehicles. It explains some of the specific things that hybrid vehicles encounter, as well as how Sea Foam works in them:

How often should I use Sea Foam in a 4 stroke motorbike?
Good question, Dan.
Here’s what I’d do: once a year, wait until you have a low tank of fuel and add a high concentration of Sea Foam Motor Treatment (up to a 2:1 ratio of gas to Sea Foam. 32 oz of fuel and 16 oz of Sea Foam). Then, ride it until about empty before refueling. The high concentration will do a great job cleaning any fuel residue or deposits.
If it’s sitting for a while between uses, you could add 1 oz of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel to every tank. That will prevent gum and varnish from forming while it sits, as well as preserve ignition vapors and prevent the fuel from degrading.
