SUMMARY
Sea Foam Motor Treatment can be used in every type of gasoline or diesel engine. When added to an engine’s oil crankcase, Sea Foam Motor Treatment works to clean and liquefy heavier oil deposits, so the residues will drain away when the oil is changed. Sea Foam cleans internal engine parts, prevents sludge and other harmful oil formations.

By adding a can of Sea Foam to my engine oil or my gas, what will I do for my 2021 Chevy Malibu RS?
Thanks for the question, Rodney. The biggest thing that Sea Foam will do for your Malibu is clean residues and deposits (which form over time in any engine) from your fuel and oil systems. Those residues and deposits often cause common engine problems like loss of fuel efficiency, loss of power, rough idle, and oil burning. The most important thing Sea Foam does is liquefy and clean away those residues so the engine can continue to run its best, or overcome problems caused by a dirty fuel or oil system. It’s a cost-effective and easy form of preventative maintenance.
Here’s what I’d do to get the most cleaning power when adding Sea Foam to the gas tank:
- Wait until the tank is low (about 1/4 tank or less)
- Add a full 16 oz can of Sea Foam
- Drive at least 10-20 miles (or until nearly empty) before refueling
The high concentration works much better and faster than adding it to a full tank.
You can also add Sea Foam to the oil. Add 1 ounce per quart of oil in the crankcase 100-300 miles before your next oil change. Sea Foam will reliquefy heavier oil residues and deposits so they can drain away with the old oil.
How much Sea Foam should I use in my 2005 Harley Davidson sportster 1200 crank case and how long or how many miles should I run it in order to clean contaminants out of my bike?
Thanks for the question! Add 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil in the crankcase. Best practice is to run it at least 100 miles before you change your oil (just ride normally until you reach 100 miles – you don’t need to ride it 100 miles right away).
Do I have to drain some oil out before I add some Sea Foam so it isn’t overfilled?
Can I use sea foam in a ‘94 Subaru Sambar engine? It’s a Japanese imported mini truck.
Thanks for the question, Juan. Yes, you can use Sea Foam Motor Treatment in a Subaru Sambar. You can use it in any gas or diesel vehicle in both the fuel and the oil.
Here’s a little more info on how to use it:
- Sea Foam Motor Treatment in fuel. I like to wait until the tank is low (1/4 -1/8 tank), add the whole 16 oz can, and then drive for at least 10-20 miles before refueling. It’s safe to add a high concentration like that and it works very well for cleaning fuel residues and deposits. Add it to fuel like this every 3,000 miles or once a year.
- Sea Foam Motor Treatment in oil. Add 1 ounce of Sea Foam per quart of oil in the crankcase. We recommend adding it 100-300 miles before your next oil change. That gives the Sea Foam enough time to circulate and clean, and it allows all the reliquefied oil residues to be drained away with the old oil. To help progressively clean up your oil crankcase, add it before every oil change.
You could also try High Mileage Motor Treatment. It’s a strong cleaner made specifically for stubborn residues and deposits in higher-mileage vehicles.
